Point Yourself in the Direction You Wish to Go

We live in an upside down world. The work we do in our cities is changing in our upside-down world. What we do, how we do it, why we do it is in question. There are challenges and opportunities before us. Who do you choose to be? Who do we choose to be?

The Nest City Community of Civic Practice, starting Friday June 12, 2020 is dedicated time to receive and offer support so we can offer our best selves to our communities and cities. Sign up here.

This is time to step out of the busy-ness of work, or the confusion of looking for new work, to point yourself in the direction you wish to go. This is particularly important because the work we do is what shapes our communities and cities.

What you’ll get out of the experience:

  • Dedicated time to explore the challenges and opportunities we face

  • Clear focus on the direction your work is taking you

  • Support to make wise and courageous choices

  • Connect with a community of people reaching into new possibilities in their city work, just like you

Being part of a community of practice with Beth pushed me to explore what relationship I wanted to foster with my community in my heritage work on a personal level, and to consider what I could provide and gain from this relationship. Most importantly, our discussions encouraged me to understand my own motivations for community engagement more deeply.

Working with Beth as one of a group of mentees was an extremely helpful and rewarding experience. Under Beth’s deft facilitation, this group of individuals with often different goals, questions and backgrounds was able to connect and find common purpose, while also supporting and reflecting on our own individual purposes. The experience helped me solidify some important questions about my direction, and even find some answers.
